"China-Tajikistan Cotton Pest Comprehensive Management and Demonstration" Project Launched

Business News Agency, May 21. Recently, the "China-Tajikistan Cotton Pest Comprehensive Management and Demonstration" project jointly launched by China and Tajikistan was launched. In the next three years, Chinese scientists will import Xinjiang's relatively complete cotton planting technology and pest control technology into Tajikistan, and establish a pest monitoring network to help local cotton increase production and income.

 

Xinjiang, China, is one of the most important high-quality cotton producing areas in the world, and has basically formed a technical system combining cotton variety breeding, high-quality, high-yield, high-efficiency, water-saving and efficient comprehensive prevention and control of pests. It is understood that the natural environment of Tajikistan is very similar to that of southern Xinjiang, but in recent years, the harm of cotton pests in Tajikistan has been serious, which has greatly affected the development of cotton industry.

 

According to the project leader of the researcher of the Xinjiang Institute of Biological Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, due to agricultural technology, production management, mechanization level, and pest control capabilities, Tajikistan's current lint yield is only 60kg per mu, while Xinjiang's lint yield is 120kg to 150kg. kg. With the launch of the project, the Xinjiang Institute of Biological Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences will cooperate with the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan to conduct research on the occurrence of cotton pests and the differences in control strategies between China and Tajikistan. It is planned to use 3 years to help Tajikistan establish 10 to 12 pest monitoring stations, basically build a cotton pest early warning and prevention and control platform, and vigorously promote biological control and physical control technologies to establish a complete set of cotton pests in Tajikistan. Integrated technical system. And build demonstration zones in Tajikistan, train scientific and technological personnel, expand the scope of application, and provide technical support for the increase of cotton production in Tajikistan.
