The project of "Comprehensive Treatment and Demonstration of Cotton Pests in China and Tajikistan" was launched

(Summary description)Business News Agency, May 21 Recently, the "China and Tajikistan Integrated Pest Management and Demonstration Project" launched by China and Tajikistan was launched. In the next three years, Chinese scientists will import Xinjiang ’s more complete cotton planting technology and pest control technology into Tajikistan, and establish a pest monitoring network to help increase local cotton production and income.

China's Xinjiang is one of the most important high-quality cotton production areas in the world, and has basically formed a technical system that combines the selection of cotton varieties, high-quality, high-yield, high-efficiency, water-saving and highly effective integrated control of harmful organisms. It is understood that Tajikistan ’s natural environment is very similar to Xinjiang ’s southern Xinjiang region. However, in recent years, Tajikistan ’s cotton pests have been seriously damaged, which has greatly affected the development of the cotton industry.

According to the project leader of the Xinjiang Institute of Habitat, Chinese Academy of Sciences, due to agricultural technology, production management, mechanization level, and pest control capabilities, Tajikistan currently produces only 60 kilograms of lint per mu, while Xinjiang's lint production is 120 to 150 kilograms. With the launch of the project, the Xinjiang Habitat Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences will cooperate with the Institute of Zoology of the Tajikistan Academy of Sciences to conduct research on the occurrence patterns and control strategies of cotton pests in China and Tajikistan. It is planned to use 3 years to help Tajikistan establish 10-12 pest monitoring stations, basically build a cotton pest early warning and prevention and control platform, and vigorously promote biological control and physical control technology to establish a complete set of cotton pests in Tajikistan Comprehensive technical system. And build a demonstration zone in Tajikistan, train scientific and technological personnel, expand the scope of application, and provide technical support for the increase of cotton production in Tajikistan.
